Here is a close up of the waterfall in my N Scale layout. The bottom of the lake is bluer that the picture shows, and it came out stunning!! I used 'Magic Water' for the lake and river. I used clear bath silicone for the waterfall effect - topping the crests with white paint.

I have installed a billboard that will light up along the rodway. All the lighting will be controlled by several individual small toggle switches I have installed in the front left edging of the layout.

Here is a nice view of the campground from the side view with campers and their vehicles in place. I used hobby wax to place them in, so they could be moved around later if I wanted.

Phil detailed my engine house, along with a couple of yard sheds. The orangish one eventually moved from this spot. I altered the yard layout from the original design to accomodate this engine house, because I really liked its look!

I now have the waterfall done. I have the lake / rapids - stream / river painted and water poured. It came out wonderful! I painted the road area black so I could start the gravel road. I had a hard time deciding what to do with the walls that created the house platforms and finally decided to make them rock walls. I smeared Quick-Grab glue on them an pushed the small rocks on it. then filled in any missing spots - WOW it turned out great!!

Emergency platforms

I decided to keep the two emergency platforms unglued so I could reach inside in case there was a derailment inside the mountain areas. The layout was DCC and I hinged it to open from the front. I glued a telephone modular connector to the bottom of the two emergency platforms so I could do a quick disconnect of the lights that would be in the house(s). t worked GREAT!

Road and flashing signals

I decide to mix my own color for the road. I wanted something that had a touch of red in it to go with the mountains. I used fine ballast, because I wanted it to resemble a dirt road. I eventually dry-brushed a reddish tint to the top of the roadbed so it would match the hues in the mountains. The blend was perfect! The railroad signals were set up to work together (2 in front and 2 in the back area of the layout). They are setup with 4 sensors in the track so when the train approaches they turn on (flashing and with sound) and turn off automatically. This worked out very cool!

Here is where the layout was as of February 2008. I decided to incorporate a programing track in the yard. It will look like an old area of track that has had service discontinued, when in fact, it is what I have connected my programming wires to. I will place a weathered steam engine on it for looks later.

I have the track permanently laid and have started the ballasting around it. I mixed two colors of gray ballast together to get the look I wanted that compliments the Fleischmann track.

I installed a wood fence on the perimeter of the town separating the town from the railroad tracks. I added small posters on the fence and it gave it a small town feel.

April 2008. I still haven't found a school or railroad station that satisfies me. All the track switches are now wired DCC with Digitax DS64 Quad Stationary decoders. They work well with the Digitrax Super Chief 8 amp DCC set. Wow, this is cool!

I have begun to figure how I wanted the left rear corner to look. I placed the house and started the small orange orchard. I made it look as if they are chopping down some of the trees. I also added gravel and rocks to the small road beside the house. I will add a bulldozer and other equipment here to look like they are altering the road to go over the railroad tracks better.
